Davis Islands’ Stewardship Team to Guide Implementation of Community’s Vision
Stewardship Team Members (l-r) - Neil Cosentino (Resident), Bill Sharpe (DICC Alt.), Cheryl Eagan (TGH), Charner Reese (DICA), Jennifer Dehnert (DICC), Susan Nelson-Crowley (Resident Alt.), Dan Crowley (Resident), Gary Brown (Resident), Paul Phillips (HAA-POK)
Upon approval of the Davis Islands Community Plan by City Council in 2007 and at the request of City Administration, a group of volunteer stakeholders came together as the plan’s Stewardship Team to identify the strategies needed to achieve the plan’s vision. From January through June of 2008, the group worked to complete the Strategic Action Plan for the Davis Islands Community Plan.
This 40-page document, which can be viewed at davisislandscivic.com by scrolling down to “Strategic Action Plan,” details the specific actions that will be needed. Actions include: new policies and ordinances to protect parkland from conversion to other uses and to ensure a pedestrian-friendly village center as redevelop occurs; a landscape master plan; and capital improvements to improve traffic calming, restore Roy Jenkins pool, build a community center; and complete the waterfront greenway along Seddon Channel and paved trail along South Davis Boulevard to Seaplane Basin Park; among many other actions. The strategic action plan also prioritizes all the identified actions by type of action.
The Stewardship Team has organized itself for plan implementation to function as a guiding and coordinating group responsible for working with stakeholders to implement the plan. The Team will work together with the City and the community to make sure it happens but not to necessarily be the implementers of the plan’s elements. The actions will be carried out through a variety of implementers, including the City, other public agencies, the civic association, the chamber of commerce, businesses, institutions, private organizations, and residents.
The Stewardship Team will bring stakeholders together, advocate on behalf of the plan’s vision and strategic actions, be a central point of information about the status of plan implementation, disseminate this information to the community, and encourage community feedback on the progress and quality of the work.
Information about the Team and its activities will be provided and updated at this webpage, including meeting dates and location. All meetings are open to the public and all interested residents, business owners and other stakeholders are encouraged to attend and provide input as we move forward with plan implementation.
