Stewardship Team to Guide Implementation of Community’s Vision

Upon completion in 2007 of the Davis Islands Community Plan, a group of volunteer stakeholders came together to identify the strategies needed to achieve the plan’s vision.  From January through June of 2008, the group worked to complete the Strategic Action Plan for the Davis Islands Community Plan.

This 40-page document, which can be viewed at this webpage, details the specific actions that will be needed.  The types of actions include: new policies and ordinances to protect parkland from conversion to other uses and to ensure a pedestrian-friendly village center as redevelop occurs; a landscape master plan; capital improvements to improve traffic calming and the Roy Jenkins pool, to complete the waterfront greenway and paved trail along Seddon Channel and South Davis Boulevard to Seaplane Basin Park, and create a community center; among many other actions. The strategic action plan prioritizes all the identified actions by type of action.

Now we need to begin implementation.  The Stewardship Team is kicking off that phase at a meeting on September 9, 2008, from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm, HCC Conference Room 113 (on the first floor of the tall building on the Hillsborough Community College DI campus) on Columbia Drive. A follow-up meeting will be held on Tuesday, September 23, same time and place.

The Stewardship Team wants as many participants as possible. All interested residents, business owners and their employees, and other Davis Islands stakeholders are invited and encouraged to attend to provide feedback and/or become a member of the Stewardship Team.

Please join us on Tuesday, September 9th for the DI Plan Stewardship Team's Implementation Kick-off Meeting.
